Board of School Directors
About the Board of Directors
Pennsylvania School Code and the Pennsylvania Department of Education govern the nine-member Board of School Directors for the Titusville Area School District. Directors act as the general agent for the people of the district in the manner of public education. They are charged with being constantly aware of the concerns and desires of the whole community regarding the quality and performance of the school system.
The Board establishes educational goals for district students and governs a program of education designed to meet those goals. The Board is committed to educating all students to the best of their individual abilities. Moreover, the Board assumes an educational leadership role and employs the Superintendent. Additionally, the Board adopts courses of study and textbooks; employs all staff members; and fixes and prescribes their duties, wages and salaries, and terms of employment.

Mrs. Jennifer Abrams has been employed full-time for the Titusville Area School District since January 2013 working at Pleasantville Elementary. Before that she was employed as an educational aide substitute. In 1994, Mrs. Abrams earned an Associate degree from Mercyhurst College.
In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her family and friends.

Mrs. Alberth has been with the school district since 2012 as the front desk secretary. She is a Titusville native and graduated from THS in 2004. Prior to starting at TMS, she worked at Salvage Direct in the IT Department, as a new product tester. Her hobbies include being with her family and friends, working out, and new adventures. She has a son, Brennen and a husband, Ben.

Mrs. Amboyer is a native of Titusville and graduated from THS in 1974. Upon graduation, she attended Robert Morris University and received an Associate’s degree in Secretarial Administration. She began her career with the Titusville Area School District in 1995 and is currently the Secretary to the Principals. Her favorite hobbies are sewing and gardening.

Mrs. Amon graduated from Edinboro State College in 1979 with a BA Degree in Arts & Humanities and a concentration in Communications Graphics. After employment in several local businesses, she returned to school to earn a teaching certificate followed by a Master's in Education Degree from Edinboro University. Mrs. Amon was hired as a middle school art teacher for TASD in 1999 after substitute teaching in the district for two years. She has taught at the elementary, middle and high school levels. Mrs. Amon is in her sixth year at Main Street Elementary, and she also teaches visual art to students in the district's Alternative Education Program. Sue is the Art Department Chair and serves on the Main Street School-wide Positive Behavior Support Team.
In time outside of school art creations, Mrs. Amon is involved in local organizations in several committee capacities, and she loves to garden and read. Mrs. Amon also likes to visit museums, galleries, and create her own art.

Debra Amsler, Ed.D joined the Titusville Area School District in 1991 as a First Grade teacher. In 2000, Dr. Amsler became the Director of Federal Programs and Curriculum. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary and Spanish Education from Slippery Rock University in 1983, her Master’s in Education from Wright State University in 1986, and her Ed.D. in Reading and Literacy from Capella University in 2015. Dr. Amsler earned a Reading Specialist certification from Clarion University, Principal and Curriculum and Instruction certifications from the University of Pittsburgh and a Letter of Eligibility from Edinboro University. Dr. Amsler enjoys her family, reading, and keeping fit

Mrs. Amy Atkins graduated from Titusville High School in 2006. She then graduated Summa Cum Laude from Clarion University in 2010 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education. Mrs. Atkins also earned her certification in Middle Level English and Mathematics Education. After graduation, she taught 5th grade in Stafford, Virginia, then moved back to the Titusville area after getting married. Amy has been employed at the Titusville YMCA Education Center as a kindergarten teacher and had the opportunity to substitute teach in Titusville School District. She is now pursuing her Master's degree in Special Education. Currently she is teaching 3rd grade at Hydetown Elementary School. In her free time she likes to scrapbook and attends Penn State football games. She and her husband have recently welcomed their first child.

Mr. Axton has been a business teacher at Titusville High School since the fall of 1997. In addition to teaching, Mr. Axton currently serves the students of Titusville as the head cross country coach, high school yearbook adviser, Future Business Leaders of America adviser, and oversees the Rocket Stop school store.
Mr. Axton holds Bachelor’s degrees in Accounting and Business Teacher Education from Robert Morris University, as well as a Master’s degree and school administration certification from Edinboro University.
Mr. Axton is a PIAA track and field official, and served as the head coach for the girls track and field District X Championship team in 2004, and the girls cross country District X Championship team in 2000.

Mrs. Axton began teaching for the Titusville Area School District in 1995. Before that she spent time as a substitute teacher and as a salesperson for a jewelry store. She earned both of her teaching degrees from Clarion University. Mrs. Axton spent 17 years as a Reading Specialist at Hydetown Elementary School. While there she enjoyed working with all grade levels, coordinated book fairs and talent shows, and served on the Elementary Student Assistance Team. Mrs. Axton has been an active part of the Parent-Teacher Committees at Hydetown Elementary School, Main Street Elementary School, and the Middle School. She also served on the Cross Country Parent Committee.

During the 2012-2013 school year, Mrs. Axton began phase two of her teaching career: teaching seventh grade Language Arts and Reading at Titusville Middle School. As part of the TMS faculty she serves as a team facilitator for 7th grade and Advisor for the TMS Student Council. She also helps students after school through the Homework Help and Targeted Tutoring programs.

Outside of school, Mrs. Axton attends the First United Methodist Church where she happily rings with the bell choir, teaches Sunday school, and coordinates Vacation Bible School every summer. She has vigorously worked on several committees for and has participated in Relay For Life of Titusville since 2010. Any spare time is usually spent driving to all of her children’s activities. Beyond all else, Mrs. Axton’s favorite thing in the world is to spend time with her awesome family: Ernie, Ben, Lauren, and Lance.

Mr. Baker has taught in the Titusville Area School District for twenty-five years. He started at Cherrytree Elementary and then moved to Main Street Elementary where he teaches fifth grade. He graduated from Slippery Rock University with a degree in commercial recreation and later returned to Edinboro University to attain his teaching degree. He has coached basketball and softball while at TASD. Mr. Baker likes to golf, bowl and hunt in his free time.

Mr. Bartley has been teaching seventh grade social studies in the Titusville Middle School since 2002. He earned a B.A. in history from Eastern Oregon University in 2001, graduating Magna Cum Laude. He continued his education at Eastern Oregon University, earning a Master’s degree in Teacher Education in 2002. In 2005, Mr. Bartley earned his administrative certification from Gannon University of Pennsylvania. 

Along with his teaching duties, Mr. Bartley has filled many different roles for the Titusville Area School District. He acted as the Middle School wrestling coach from 2002-2010, earning the Pennsylvania District 10 Jr. High Coach of the Year Award in 2007 and 2010.  Mr. Bartley also works as a member of the Student Assistance Program and as the seventh grade team facilitator.

Mrs. Bowser is a graduate of Titusville High School. She received a Bachelor’s Degree in Education with a Minor in Mathematics from Edinboro University. She taught sixth grade for six years and then became a fifth grade teacher at Pleasantville. Mrs. Bowser currently teaches fifth grade at Main Street Elementary where she hopes to continue to teach for many more years.

Mr. Brooks, a native of Pleasantville, graduated from Edinboro University in 1991 with a B.S. in Elementary Education. He started his teaching career in Virginia before returning to the Titusville area in 1999. In Titusville, he has taught fourth grade at Cherrytree Elementary School as well as Language Arts and Social Studies at Titusville Middle School. Mr. Brooks is currently a science teacher at TMS. Mr. Brooks is a member of the Student Assistance Program. He has also served as a basketball coach for several years within the Titusville Area School District and Team Facilitator. Mr. Brooks is a member of the Titusville Education Association, Pennsylvania State Education Association and the National Education Association.

Mrs. Burger began her work with Riverview Intermediate Unit in 1994 as a Sign Language Interpreter for students. Mrs. Burger and her husband have four grown children and nine grandchildren. Beth Butryn is a fifth grade teacher at Hydetown Elementary School. She graduated from Clarion University in 1987. She began working for the Titusville School District in 1988. She started her career teaching one year of pre-school at Pleasantville and Main Street. Then she moved on to teach sixth grade at the old Junior High for two years. Since then she has been in her current position. In addition to her regular teaching duties, Ms. Butryn also coordinates the annual school wide track and field day and is the yearbook advisor.
Outside of school, Ms. Butryn has many hobbies and activities to keep her busy. Her favorite activity is camping with her family and friends. In the summer she also loves to golf and garden. In the winter she takes part in two bowling leagues. Other past time activities include reading, watching sports, and just spending time with her loved ones.

Miss Buzzanca is the Title I Reading Specialist at Main Street Elementary School. Lynette spent four years teaching at a private school in North East, Pennsylvania, where she taught second and third grade for two years, then fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth grade Language Arts and History for two years. Miss Buzzanca began teaching at Main Street Elementary School in 2013.

Heather Carson is one of our math teachers here at the high school. Heather has spent most of her life here in the Titusville area. Heather graduated from Titusville in 1993 and went on to Westminster College to study secondary education. She has taught in a variety of different settings including an inner city school in Maryland and a private school in Erie. She taught for 14 years at Rocky Grove before she came to the Titusville District. She has lived in the Titusville area for all but two years of her life.
Heather has a Master’s Equivalency by taking a variety of technology and instructional strategy courses. She continues to take different courses to keep up to date in these areas. Mrs. Carson has two children that keep her busy with sporting activities such as baseball and softball where they spend most of their summer nights at practices or games.

Mr. Cartney earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts with a concentration in Graphic Design and a minor in Ceramics from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and a certificate of Art Education from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. Mr. Cartney is currently teaching Studio Arts, Commercial Art, Video Production, 3-D Art and Graphics Communication. Mr. Cartney also serves as the advisor for Art Club, and as Auditorium Manager. He has been teaching at the high school since 1999.
Mr. Cartney has spent many years volunteering in his community by participating in the Titusville Council on the Arts and the Shade Tree Commission. He is an alumnus of the Titusville Area School District.
Mr. Cartney enjoys spending time with his wife, Julie and their two children. They enjoy traveling and camping. He is an avid gardener, and especially enjoys cultivating bonsai trees.

Melissa Chamberlain graduated from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor’s degree in elementary education. She began working at Titusville Area school district in the winter of 2005 as a substitute teacher. The following year Mrs. Chamberlain worked for Titusville as an alternative education teacher and an adult education teacher while continuing to sub. In the fall of 2006 Mrs. Chamberlain became highly certified to teach middle school English and began teaching seventh grade language arts at Titusville Middle School. During her time as a middle school teacher, she obtained her Master’s Degree in Middle School Education. In the fall of 2011 Mrs. Chamberlain started teaching fifth grade at Pleasantville Elementary School where she continues to work today.

Stephanie Cicero was hired at the Titusville Area School District in 2012. She graduated from Slippery Rock University with a degree in Music Education/Percussion. She has also earned a Master’s Degree in Music Education/General Music/Instrumental Music from Kent State University. In addition to her teaching responsibilities, Stephanie is the Middle School musical director and assists with the high school marching band.

Mrs. Colie is a graduate of Shaler Area High School, Class of 1989. She attended Bethany College then University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Mathematics with a minor in Computer Science. Mrs. Colie went on to receive her Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction and her Principal’s Certification from Gannon University. She continues to take classes yearly to keep up with the changing world.


Mrs. Colie has been teaching at Titusville Area School District for 19 years as a 7th grade mathematics instructor. During her time at TASD, Mrs. Colie helped run Student Council, the Math Club, and Stand Tall. She was also involved with the Titusville Area Association as Vice-President, Building Representative and Social Chair. Mrs. Colie was also a team facilitator for 7th grade Team Centaur and an adult Education instructor.


Outside of school, Mrs. Colie loves the outdoors and spending time with her family and friends. She loves skiing, playing softball and tennis, swimming, boating, traveling, listening to music and most importantly spending time with her husband and three wonderful kids.

In 1998, she moved to Main Street Elementary and taught first grade for two years, and since then has been a second grade teacher at Main Street. She lives in Titusville with her husband and two children.

Jim has worked for the Titusville Area School District for the past 34 years. He began his career as a health and physical education and mathematics instructor. In addition to his teaching career he was the head girls’ swim coach, an assistant football coach, an assistant basketball coach and the athletic trainer throughout his career. Mr. Come is a first year teacher at Titusville High School. In addition to teaching, he also volunteer coaches for the high school boys’ soccer team and was hired as an assistant swim coach at THS.

Prior to teaching at THS, Mr. Come completed his student teaching at Franklin Area High School teach chemistry. He also has a year of experience at Warren Area High School as a long term substitute teaching physics.

She was hired as a fulltime aide at the E.C.L.C. in 1997 and moved to the High School in the fall of 2001 as attendance secretary and now also runs the district’s Print Shop. You will often see her at school sporting events. She is the mother of 3, all of whom graduated from Titusville, and the grandmother of 1. She enjoys flying to England to spend time with her daughter’s family, when she is able to.

Ms. Cotterman is a native of Jefferson, Ohio. She has been a Title 1 Reading Specialist at Pleasantville School since 1988. Prior to her employment with the Titusville Area School District, she was a classroom teacher for the Oil City School District in grades 1 and 2. She graduated Cum Laude from Edinboro University in 1986 with a dual Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education and Early Childhood Education. Continuing her studies at E.U.P., she earned a Master’s Degree as a Reading Specialist in 1987 as well as Certifications in Elementary School Administration and Elementary School Supervision, both in 1995. Ms. Cotterman is a member of the Titusville Education Association, Pennsylvania State Education Association and the National Education Association.

John Cowan has served as the Titusville Area School District’s Director of Buildings and Grounds since 2011. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Grove City College.  John has over 30 years of experience in Facility management operations including service with the nationally renowned support service companies  ARAMARK/ServiceMaster and UGL-UNICCO. John’s previous Director roles prior to coming to Titusville Area School District included tenures at Wake Forest University, Millcreek Township School District, The University of Miami and Slippery Rock University. Regional responsibilities as Director of Operations with ARAMARK/ServiceMaster in the Northeast and Southeastern United States included consulting at over 100 educational and healthcare institutions.

She was hired by Titusville Area School District in 2009. She earned her Master’s in Education from Gannon University in 2011.

Mrs. Cressman attends the First Presbyterian Church of Titusville. She enjoys crafting, photography and traveling. Beyond her activities, her favorite way to spend her time is with her husband, Toby, and dogs, Louie and Bruiser as well as her other family members. Mrs. Cressman is really excited to be a part of the Middle School family!

Mrs. Dahle has been employed by the Titusville Area School District for 23 yrs. She has been the secretary at Pleasantville School for 18 years. Mrs. Dahle was the recipient of the Loretta Woodson Award in 2011 for “unselfish dedication and exemplary service to the Pleasantville School and Titusville School District”. She has also received a Citation from the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for her “invaluable tenure of service in which she has demonstrated remarkable knowledge, ability and integrity in carrying out her many responsibilities, thus earning her the respect and gratitude of all those who have received the benefit of her tireless devotion to duty”.

Mrs. Julie Daugherty is a graduate of Titusville High School, Class of 1984. She attended the University of Pittsburgh-Titusville and then transferred to main campus where she received a Bachelor's in American History with a minor in Pre-Soviet History. She earned her Secondary Education Certificate in Social Studies and after subbing for a year was hired as a Social Studies teacher for the Valley Grove School District. After being employed for 6 years, Mrs. Daugherty resigned to raise her three children. During her hiatus, she moved to Kokkola, Finland for two years with her family. While there, she taught a 6th grade English class at Hollihaka Immersion School. Returning to the States, she and her family lived in Hinckley, Ohio and returned to the Titusville area in 2005. In 2006, she began subbing for the Titusville District K-12 and has been very involved in the District with her three children and subbing.


Mrs. Daugherty is a member of the Titusville Alumni Association and the United Way of the Titusville Region board and attends the Titusville Free Methodist Church. Beyond her activities, her favorite way to spend her time is with her husband, Jim, and children Justin, Shannon and Cameron and other family members. Mrs. Daugherty is really excited to a part of the Middle School family!

She obtained a Bachelor of Science degree from Edinboro University with certifications in the fields of mathematics and physics. In 2002, she accepted a position with the Titusville Area School District as an 8th grade math instructor. Vanessa Doutt is currently a 4th grade teacher at Pleasantville. She graduated with a Bachelor's in Special and Elementary Education from Slippery Rock University and then a Master's degree in Reading from Edinboro University. Before teaching in the Titusville Area School District Vanessa taught in the Redbank Valley School District as a Learning Support Teacher and gave piano lessons. In 1995, she was hired in the Titusville School District to teach Learning Support. Since then, Vanessa has served as a Reading Specialist, 1st Grade teacher, and 2nd Grade teacher at Pleasantville and Hydetown Elementary Schools and taught the summer PALS Programs. In addition to reading, 4 wheeling, and visiting family, Miss Doutt enjoys watching her son, Owen, play hockey for the Meadville Bulldogs and watching her daughter, Kasey, dance, play sports, and participate in church activities. Vanessa lives in Youngsville with her fiancé, Seth, and her children.

Mrs. Dunning has lived overseas for a few years in Japan and Germany when her husband was serving in the Air Force. Mrs. Dunning enjoys reading inspirational stories about faith and love, when she has the time. She also teaches Sunday school at a small church and loves it.

Mrs. Elan was born and raised in Titusville, and she graduated from Titusville High School. She earned a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from Grove City College. Nicole later earned a Master's Degree in Elementary Education, with a focus on literacy, from Walden University. Mrs. Elan taught for one year in North Carolina before returning to the Titusville Area School District. In Titusville, she has been a first, third, and fourth grade teacher. Nicole has been teaching full-time since 1998, with 17 years spent at Hydetown Elementary School. Mrs. Elan currently is a first grade teacher at Main Street Elementary School, joining the faculty and staff there for the 2015-16 school year. Nicole resides in Titusville with her husband, three children, and the family dog, and in her spare time she likes to read and kayak.

Mrs. Feiereisen is a THS graduate and an Edinboro University graduate with a degree in Art K-12.  Prior to her hiring as our new elementary art teacher, she was a substitute teacher for the district for the past several years and also worked with the YMCA's 21st Century After School Learning Program as the lead second grade teacher.  In addition she has taught lessons at the Erie Art Museum and was awarded an academic achievement award at Edinboro. She also participated in the NAEA organization.  Mrs. Feireisen and her husband Erik currently reside in Titusville.

Mrs. Fenske as been employed in the Titusville School District since 2008. Her teaching duties include chorus sixth through twelfth grades, general music (guitar) for sixth grade, performance training, and history of rock and roll. She is also the assistant marching band director, music/chorus director, sophomore talent show coordinator, and directs the stage portion of the all school musical.

Mrs. Fenske graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education in May 2008. She graduated magna cum laude, and was a member of the music fraternity, Sigma Alpha Iota. She earned her Master’s Degree in Music Education from Boston University in 2012. She also holds a digital learning certificate from Eduspire, and completed the Pennsylvania Music Educator’s Association leadership academy in 2015.

Mrs. Fenske is a member of NEA, TEA, and PMEA. She also serves as the technology and data coordinator for PMEA District 2 and also serves as the Vice Chairperson for Titusville Summer Theater. Outside of school she teaches private voice, guitar, and saxophone lessons. During her spare time, she enjoys staying active in music theater, reading, kayaking, and spending time with her family.

I received my bachelor’s degree in literature, communication arts, and secondary education from Grove City College and my master’s degree in communications with a certificate in public relations from Clarion University. I taught tenth and eleventh grade English at North Clarion High School for four years before coming to THS in 2001. I taught tenth and eleventh grade English at the high school from 2001 until January 2010, when I took a sabbatical to complete my master’s degree. The next fall I returned to TMS to teach 8th grade reading and language arts classes for three years before returning to the high school to teach 11th grade English.

Mr. Fink graduated from Oil City in 1997. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in both Elementary and Special education from Mercyhurst College. He obtained his Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction from Gannon University. In addition to his Master’s he also received his Principal’s Certification from Gannon as well.
For the past 14 years, Mr. Fink worked in Jamestown, New York. For the first seven years, he was an 8th grade consultant teacher at Washington Middle School. The next 6 years he was an assistant principal at that same school. This last year he was the assistant principal at Jamestown High School. In addition to teaching and being an assistant principal, Mr. Fink also coached Freshmen football for 5 years and was 7th and 8th grade basketball coach for the past 11 years.
Mr. Fink enjoys spending time with his daughters, family, and friends. He is an avid sports fan and enjoys golfing, weight lifting, and being outdoors.

From there, I went on to teach computer science classes at Kane High School and Youngsville High School, before being hired at Titusville Area School District in 1998. I taught Computer Science classes at Titusville High School for a few years before resigning to stay home to raise our growing family.

Mr. Hancock has been part of the Titusville community since 1992 and has worked as a School Psychologist in the Titusville Area School District (TASD) since 1993. Mr. Hancock was born and raised in Batavia, New York and earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology from Allegheny College. He then received his Master’s Degree in School Psychology from Alfred University in 1993. His current duties are to provide an array of psychological services to students at the TMS/THS.

In addition to his academic duties, Mr. Hancock has been a strong proponent of student extracurricular involvement. Mr. Hancock has coached football, wrestling, and/or both at all levels for the better part of two decades and currently serves as the Head Football Coach. He is a member of the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP), Titusville Education Association (TEA), and the Pennsylvania State Education Association (PSEA). Additionally, he is a member of the Crawford County Suicide Task Force (CCSTF) and the Crawford County Educational Subcommittee (CCES). He and his wife Sandy live in Pleasantville with their three sons.

Mr. Hauptman is a lifelong resident of Titusville. He is a graduate of St. Joseph Academy in Titusville; and Lincoln School of Welding where he worked on building ships on Lake Erie. He also received his Practical Nursing and served 6 years with the United States Army Reserve from 1967 to 1973 with a rank of E-5; and received an honorable discharge. Mr. Hauptman is married with 4 children and 7 grandchildren. He has been with the district since 2013 working as a child specific aide and is currently a behavioral support aide at Main Street Elementary School.

Mrs. Henderson has been employed with the Titusville Area School District for 17 years.  Beginning in 1999, she began working part-time as the Parent Partner for the Read to Succeed program.  In addition, Mrs. Henderson had been a substitute teacher in grades Pre-K through 8th grade, she presently works as a full-time kindergarten teacher at the Early Childhood Learning Center.  Mrs. Henderson was educated in Corry, PA and graduated from Corry Area High School.  After graduation she began attending college at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, she transferred to Towson State University in Maryland.  Mrs. Henderson graduated from Edinboro University where she earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education.  Upon continuing her education, she has added several credits in the areas of Education/Early Childhood from a variety of institutions.

Amy Herman has an undergraduate degree in Mathematics from Seton Hill University. She completed her Master of Education in Secondary Guidance and Counseling from Slippery Rock University. Her administrative certifications in Mathematics Supervision and Elementary and Secondary Administration were obtained from Edinboro University. Amy also holds PDE certifications for the Pennsylvania Information Management System in the areas of LEA District Administrator, Experienced PIMS Administrator, Child Accounting, Career and Technical Education, Special Education, and Data Entry.

 

Before coming to Titusville in 1993, Amy taught junior and senior high mathematics at Sayre Area School District in Sayre, PA. During her years at Titusville, she has been employed as a math teacher, middle school counselor and middle school assistant principal. Currently she is the Director of Student Services for the district overseeing PowerSchool Student Information System, Supervision of School Counselors and School Nurses, Student Assistance Programming, Homeless Liaison, and Mathematics Department Chairperson. She has been the Director of Student Services with the district since 2007.

Jon Herman began his teaching career with Titusville during the 1993-94 school year. He has earned his Bachelors in Social Studies Secondary Education from Juniata College and his Master’s degree in history from Slippery Rock University.  Currently, he teaches 7th grade Ancient World and 8th grade Western Civilizations. He is the social studies department chair and a middle school basketball coach. He also coaches youth softball, baseball, soccer and is involved with the Strategy Gaming Club. Mr. Herman enjoys his family, all things history, reads like a fiend, sings, dances and alternately quotes from the movie Braveheart and any Rocky movie.

Miss Hofstetter was hired in July of 2013 to join the Early Childhood Learning Center staff.  She graduated in 2004 from McDowell High School in Erie PA.  She went on to study music at Mercyhurst College and graduated in 2007, cum laude, with a Bachelors of Music Degree in Music Education.  Immediately after graduation Miss Hofstetter was hired in July of 2013 to join the Early Childhood Learning Center staff.  She graduated in 2004 from McDowell High School in Erie PA.  Miss Hofstetter went on to study music at Mercyhurst College in Erie PA she graduated in 2007, cum laude, with a Bachelors of Music in Music Education.  Immediately after graduating college, Miss Hofstetter was recruited to teach in Salisbury, MD.  Miss Hofstetter taught music for five years for the Wicomico County Board of Education at a primary school.  Outside of school, Miss Hofstetter enjoys crafting, shopping and spending time with her family and her dog, Minnie.  Miss Hofstetter also loves Zumba and is a licensed Zumba instructor.

Mr. Hopkins is a graduate of Edinboro University with a Bachelor’s degree in Science Education, specializing in Earth and Space Science. He began working for the Titusville Area School District as an evening instructor with the Alternative Education’s GED program. This transitioned into a full-time teaching position in the Alternative Education day program. After this experience, he came to the Middle School as an Earth and Space Science teacher. Mr. Hopkins currently teaches an 8th grade Integrated Science program. While at TMS, he began a Master’s program in Technology in Education to better utilize current technology in the classroom.

Miss Hopwood is the Title 1 Reading Specialist at Hydetown Elementary School. She is a graduate of Titusville High School. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education from Edinboro University in 2013. Miss Hopwood earned her Master’s Degree in Reading from Edinboro University in 2016. Outside of school, Miss Hopwood enjoys walking her dogs, spending time with family and friends, kayaking, and crafting and upcycling. She resides in Titusville.

Greg Houck graduated from Maplewood High School in 1985 and from Thiel College with a B.S. in mathematics in 1989 He began teaching math at Titusville Junior High School in 1989 and received his Masters Degree in Secondary School Counseling from Edinboro University in 1995. He became a high school Guidance Counselor in 2000.
This year Mr. Houck is taking on the position of assistant principal at the Middle School. In addition he has also been an assistant coach in football and basketball, and a head coach in both boys and girls basketball during his time at Titusville High School.

Stacy Houck taught at Riverside High School and Cochranton Junior-Senior High School before being hired by the Titusville Area School District in 2003. Mrs. Houck taught business education at THS for 3 years, was the library media specialist at TMS for 9 years and is currently serving as the assistant principal at Titusville High School.
In addition to her teaching responsibilities, Mrs. Houck has coached varsity volleyball and middle school basketball. She is a member of the THS Student Assistance Team serves on the TIMS Committee for the school district. She is also a member of NASSP and PAECT.
Mrs. Houck holds a B.A. degree in accounting and business administration from Thiel College. She received her teaching certification through Notre Dame College of Ohio. She also has earned a M.Ed. in Library Science from Mansfield University as well as K-12 Administrative Certification from Gannon University.

Gretchen Howard graduated magna cum laude from the University of Pittsburgh with Bachelor's degrees in Psychology and Art History in April of 2000. She was employed as a Counselor/Advocate, working with victims of sexual and domestic violence, until earning her Masters of Social Work Degree in May of 2013 from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. After becoming a Licensed Social Worker in August of 2013, Gretchen worked as a licensed therapist with a local non-profit agency until accepting the Social Worker Position with United Way of the Titusville Region and the Titusville Area School District.
Gretchen is a lifelong resident of Titusville and in her free time she enjoys being outdoors with her husband and two little boys.

Mr. Huck is a 1998 graduate of Fort LeBoeuf High School. He then attended California University of Pennsylvania from which he graduated in 2003 with a Bachelor’s of Education in Technology Education and an Associate’s Degree in Drafting Technology. After graduation, he began teaching at Titusville Middle School as a Technology Education teacher. Mr. Huck has since earned a Master’s degree in Technology Education from California University of Pennsylvania.
Mr. Huck has also served as assistant wrestling coach for Titusville High School for seven years and currently coaches Middle School track. He also volunteers as a coach for the Titusville Area Youth Wrestling club and for Titusville Area Little League.

Ann Jaco is a graduate of Titusville High School. After graduation, she attended the University of Pittsburgh earning a Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies focusing in psychology and sociology. She then went on to Edinboro University, earning her certification in elementary education and then becoming highly qualified in middle level English Language Arts. In 2009, she completed her graduate work, earning a Masters of Reading at Edinboro University.

Mrs. Jaco began her career as an assistant teacher at the Titusville Day Care. Continuing in the district, she was a substitute teacher for several years, taught Alternative Education, and was a GED instructor. During her time, she has taught at the elementary level, Language Arts and Reading in grades 6th-8th, and is currently the Title 1 Reading Specialist.

2014-2015 School Year:  The Board of School Directors conducted their annual evaluation of District Superintendent, Karen Jez. Ms. Jez has met each of the following performance standards: Student Growth and Achievement; Organizational Leadership; District Operations and Financial Management; Communication and Community Relations at the proficient or distinguished level and has satisfactorily completed the identified district goals at the proficient level with an overall year-end evaluation rating of Proficient for the 2014 – 2015 school year.


BIOGRAPHY: 

Karen began her teaching career as a substitute teacher in the mid 1980’s. Shortly thereafter she was hired as an art teacher by the Franklin and Valley Grove School District’s. While teaching, Karen became involved in leading many extra-curricular activities, including class advisor, coach, student assistance team and peer mentoring to mention just a few. 

 

Karen was hired as an assistant principal at TMS in 1996 before moving on to become the Middle School Principal in 1998. She was instrumental in leading the development of a middle school program for the newly constructed middle school, which opened in 1999. The school has since become a model for middle schools across the Commonwealth. 

 

After serving time as the assistant superintendent, in 2006, Karen accepted the position as Superintendent of Schools for Titusville where she has continued making her mark as a top quality school leader; not only locally, but across the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

 

In addition to her professional life, Karen is the Vice President of the State PARSS Board (Pennsylvania Rural and Small Schools Association); a member of the FORUM for the Superintendents’ of Western PA; and active with the PASA (Pennsylvania Association of School Administrators) Association’s professional development committee. Karen is also involved in numerous volunteer agencies in the community. She is currently a Board member for the United Way of the Titusville region; the President of the Titusville Regional Literacy Council; a member of the Titusville Rotary Club and its Foundation Chairperson.

 

She truly lives by her motto “Educating Children is the most important thing our Community does.”

Mrs. Jones has been teaching Social Studies in the Titusville Area School District since 1994.  She spent sixteen years teaching Geography and Ancient World Cultures to 7th graders, and currently teaches U.S. and the World to 11th grade students.  Mrs. Jones earned her undergraduate degree in Social Studies Education from Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania in 1992, and went on to earn a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Gannon University in 2000 and a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study in Differentiated Education from NorthCentral University in 2010.  In addition to her teaching duties at Titusville High School, she is currently the advisor of the History Club and Model UN Team, and tutors students in the after school Homework Help/Credit Recovery program.  Over the years she has also coached volleyball and cheerleading, advised the Middle School Student Council, served as a cooperating teacher for several student teachers and has sat on various building and district committees.  Mrs. Jones is an active member of the Pennsylvania Alliance for Geographic Education (PAGE), serving in its Steering Committee, is a THS teacher-leader for Reading Apprenticeship Improving Secondary Education in Pennsylvania (PA-RAISE), and has been recognized by National Geographic with a Distinguished Teacher Award and by the Network of State Teacher of the Year – Pennsylvania Chapter (NSTOY-PA) as a 2015 teacher of the year finalist.  In addition, Mrs. Jones has had the opportunity to travel on a Fulbright trip to Jordan in 2014 and a National Endowment for the Humanities trip to Turkey in 2015.

Mrs. Keebler graduated from Oil City High School in 1991. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Spanish Education from Clarion University in 1995. Mrs. Keebler began her teaching career at Venango Catholic where she taught Spanish and French. She accepted a position with Clarion Area School District in 2000 where she spent six years teaching elementary Spanish to students in grades K-6. While with the Clarion Area School District, Mrs. Keebler obtained her masters in education with a specialization in curriculum and instruction from Gannon University. She also earned her ESL program specialist certification. Nearing the end of her tenure, she completed her K-12 principal’s certification through Gannon University. In the summer of 2006, Mrs. Keebler accepted the position of high school principal for Titusville High School. She served in that position for seven years. In 2013, Mrs. Keebler transferred from the high school to Main Street Elementary School. While serving as the Main Street Elementary principal, Mrs. Keebler completed her letter of eligibility/superintendent’s certification through Gannon University. Mrs. Keebler enjoys working with the students, faculty, staff, and parents of Main Street Elementary.

Megan Kelly was born and raised in Corry, PA. She attended Alfred University where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood and Childhood Education, as well as a Master’s Degree in Literacy Education. Mrs. Kelly also played basketball at Alfred.
After graduating, Mrs. Kelly taught kindergarten in Baltimore, Maryland for 2 years and kindergarten, first, and second grade in New York City for 5 years. She began teaching at Hydetown Elementary in 2014.
Mrs. Kelly enjoys reading, playing basketball, running, going to the beach, and kayaking. She lives in Centerville with her husband, Ryan.
