Please take time to check out the February Calendar for Main Street School under the Downloads section of the Main Menu.  The calendar was recently sent home with students, along with February's Newsletter, which is printed on the back of the take-home calendar. 

Some important dates and events to keep in mind for the current month include:  Spring Picture Day, scheduled for Thursday, February 4th; Family Fun Night, scheduled for Friday, February 5th from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m.; start up of afterschool PSSA Study Clubs beginning Monday, February 8th; and the H.E.A.R.T. Award Recipients Family Breakfast scheduled for Friday, February 26th at 7:30 a.m.  Specific grades and times for the PSSA Clubs are indicated on the February calendar.

THS Key Club and THS Service Learning Join Efforts to Support Local Nonprofits

Throughout the month of January, Americans memorialize the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. by participating in service projects in their communities. (Learn more, visit www.mlkday.org). The students from the THS Key Club and THS Service Learning program are joining efforts to support local nonprofit agencies with the Community Give Back project. The Titusville Area School district kicked-off the giving with the second annual MLK Jeans Day on Friday, January 15. Faculty and staff were invited to wear their jeans to work for a donation of $5 which earned $615 for local agencies.

The Community Give Back project was created to continue support for local nonprofits that began in 2006 with the Children & Youth AmeriCorps*VISTA Project of NW PA. For three years, AmeriCorps*VISTA members and local volunteers teamed-up for a "Stuff the Bus" event to collect needed items for local non-profits. This year the Community Give Back project again allowed local agencies to submit a "wish list" of needed items that help with day-to-day operations and help provide valuable services to thousands of area residents throughout the year. Wish list items include art supplies, office supplies, non-perishable items, cleaning supplies, paper products, and toiletries. Agencies also requested specific items such as: bulletin boards, an electric pencil sharpener, ink cartridges, mittens, gloves, and hats, towels and linens, and nutrition drinks.

THS students will hold a Community Give Back day at the Titusville Wal-Mart on Saturday, January 30th from 9 to 2. THS students have also placed complete item lists and donation boxes at various locations throughout Titusville. Donation boxes and "wish lists" may be found at each of the Titusville Area schools, the Early Childhood Learning Center, Titusville United Way, Titusville Area Hospital, Dr. Wilkens' office and Dr. Ferreira's office. THS students will be accepting donations through Wednesday, February 3.

All donations will be distributed to these local agencies: Associated Charities, Big Brothers and Sisters of Crawford Co., Inc., Crawford County READ Program, Hospice of Crawford County, Love, INC, Salvation Army, Titusville Area Senior Citizens Corporation, Titusville United Way, and YWCA of Titusville.
