With the United Way of the Titusville Region’s UNITED WE WIN campaign kick-off coming up, the agency has announced Chief Harold J. Minch will act as the Chair and the Jon and Amy Herman family will serve as Vice Chairs of the annual fund drive.

Chief Minch began his law enforcement career in South Florida with the Delray Beach Police Department in 1986. He attained the rank of Sergeant prior to returning to College in Gainesville, FL at the University of Florida to finish his Bachelor’s Degree. During his time in Gainesville he worked for the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office. In 1994 Chief Minch moved to Naples, FL to be near his Family and joined the Collier County Sheriff’s Officer. During his 21 years at CCSO he attained the rank of Captain and eventually retired at the rank of Chief in November of 2015. Chief Minch has been a Road Patrol Officer, Sergeant, Detective and Detective Sergeant. He was promoted to Lieutenant in 2001 and was in charge of the Countywide Safety and Traffic Enforcement Bureau, and Agricultural Bureau. In 2010 Chief Minch was transferred to the Vice and Narcotics Bureau and eventually promoted to Captain in the Investigative Division to Command both the Vice and Narcotics Bureau and the Intelligence Bureau. He was also in charge of the K-9 and Highway Interdiction Units during his time in Narcotics. Post Retirement from CCSO Chief Minch was hired by the City of Titusville to be their Chief and has been in that post since 07/2016.

Chief Minch has a Bachelor’s Degree from The University of Florida, a Master’s Degree from The University of Central Michigan, and is a Graduate of Class 13 of the Senior Leadership Program of FDLE/FSU in Florida. He is married to his Wife Xia and they have no children. He is also a proud member of the Titusville Rotary Club.

The Herman family got its start over 20 years ago right here in Titusville. Even though Jon and Amy are not natives, they have fallen in love with the Titusville community. Both Jon and Amy arrived here in 1993 as newly hired teachers for the Titusville Area School District. Jon is originally from New Paris, PA and Amy from East Brady, PA. When they arrived here so many years ago, neither knew each other. They met while working together, and ten years later were married here in Titusville at St. Titus Roman Catholic Church.

Jon has taught social studies for middle and high school grades throughout his 24 years, and has also been the Social Studies Department Chairperson for 10 years. In addition to his unfailing commitment to providing quality instruction for students, he has coached basketball for Titusville School District mostly at the 7th grade level for over 18 years. Prior to starting his own family, Jon was involved in Crawford County Big Brothers and Sisters as a Big Brother for 10 years. He also served on the Big Brothers and Sisters Board for 5 years. Both Jon and Amy served as spokesperson for Bowl for Kids’ Sake in Titusville. Currently, Jon volunteers as a Youth Soccer and Youth Girls’ Softball Coach. He also serves on the Soccer Committee and is Vice-President of the Girls’ Softball Committee.

Amy taught mathematics for Titusville Schools for five years prior to joining the middle school counseling department. She worked as a school counselor with students in grades 6-8 for a period of seven years. While working at the middle school, Amy took a leadership role in promoting middle level education as the Executive Secretary for the Pennsylvania Middle School Association. She served on this state board for six years. In 2004, she became the Assistant Principal of Titusville Middle School and then moved on to become the Director of Student Services for the school district in 2007. She was also given the responsibility of developing Titusville Area School District’s Virtual Academy. Through her current position, Amy focuses on the needs of students. Everything from enrollment and records, career education, counseling and nursing services, to the needs of families in temporary living situations, comes underneath the Student Services umbrella.

Jon and Amy have three children, - Audrey, Joe, and Mary Meg – all born here at Titusville Hospital years ago. Audrey is an 8th grader at Titusville Middle School, while Joe and Mary Meg attend Main Street Elementary in grades 5 and 2, respectively. The Herman Family attends St. Titus Roman Catholic Church regularly and continues their volunteer service within the parish. Jon and Amy serve on the Marriage Preparation Pre-Cana Team and also volunteer as catechists, doing Children’s Liturgy of the Word. The entire Herman family volunteers numerous hours toward St. Titus’ Faith Formation Program Fundraiser, Santa’s Workshop, held every November. Audrey and Mary Meg have both donated their hair to the Pantene’s Beautiful Lengths program that makes wigs for cancer patients. Joe has plans to donate also - likely during his teen years!

Jon and Amy feel a great responsibility to teach their children the value of service, volunteerism, and giving of yourself for others. The Herman Family is proud to become involved in supporting United Way’s efforts this year.

The Campaign Leadership is responsible for leading the community through the annual campaign and raising $170,000 to support programs in our community that address the region’s most pressing needs in the areas of Education, Income and Health.
