Unlimited Possibilities with FCCLA Leadership

Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) members from Titusville Middle School and Titusville high School learned leadership skills, project ideas and participated in state competition while attending the 2017 FCCLA State Leadership Conference on March 29-31 at the Seven Springs Mountain Resort in Champion, PA.

The theme of the conference, “Unlimited Possibilities,” challenged FCCLA members to use their leadership skills to make a difference in their families and communities. Titusville middle and high school FCCLA chapter members returned from the conference with a determination to focus their energies on becoming better community leaders.

The state conference also gave members the opportunity to compete in STAR Events (Students Taking Action with Recognition). Taylor Jones, Skyler Rowe and Brooke Wagner competed in Focus on Children Jr. with a project titled “Getting a Head Start with the Golden Rule” The project involved reading Golden Rule books to Twin Creeks Head Start children to help them learn appropriate behaviors. They earned a silver medal. Abby Lesko competed in Chapter Service Project Display, Jr. with a project titled “Memory and Special Education“ which involved working with life skills students in memory recall. She earned a bronze medal. Kiera Mitcham and Erin Mitchell competed in Chapter Service Project Display, Sr. with a project titled “Nursery Rhyme Night“ , which involved creating sets for the Early Childhood learning Center (ECLC) trick or treat nursery rhyme night. They earned a silver medal. Abby Redd competed in Interior Design, Sr. with a project that involved designing an outdoor living space for a homeowner. She earned a bronze medal. Autumn Karns and Kaitlyn Farnham competed in Focus on Children, Sr. with a project titled “ECLC Reading Nights” which involved creating activities and snacks during the 2016/17 ECLC Reading nights. They earned a gold medal and a place on the national team representing PA FCCLA this summer in Nashville TN.Autumn and Kaitlyn also served as state officers on the PA FCCLA Executive Council for the 2016-2017 school year.

Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America is a dynamic and effective national student organization that helps young men and women become leaders and addresses important personal, family, work, and social issues through Family & Consumer Sciences and related Career and Technical Education programs. The organization has involved over ten million youth since its founding in 1945. FCCLA is unique among youth organizations because it is the only national in-school organization with the family as its central focus. Participation in national programs and chapter activities helps members become strong leaders in their families, careers, and communities. TASD has sponsored an FCCLA chapter since 1995. Chapter advisors are Cindy Sopher and Raquel McFarland.
