THS Students Recognized for Voices of Democracy Essays
Established in 1947 by the VFW, the Voice of Democracy National Audio Essay Scholarship Competition gives high school students the opportunity to express themselves in regards to democratic ideas and principles. Students compete by writing and recording an original essay on an annual patriotic theme. The theme for this year’s essay was “My Vision for America”.

Eleventh grade students at THS participated in the Voices of Democracy Competition through Mrs. Jones’ and Mr. Ottney’s classes. Once essays were written, several were chosen for entry at the local VFW Bruce Shorts Post 5958. Students were recognized by the local VFW for their essays as the 2015 – 2016 school year came to close. The theme for the 2016 – 2017 competition is “My Responsibility to America” and is open to all students in grades 9 – 12.
