Wallops Island Adventure Trip

Seventh and eighth grade students from Titusville Middle School embarked on an adventure to Wallops Island, Virginia on Sunday, May 12 for an experience of a lifetime. Students traveled for nine hours on a bus to the Marine Science Consortium located on the mainland of Virginia's Eastern Shore. Salt, fresh, and brackish marshes, estuaries and bays, unspoiled ocean beaches, and three barrier islands- Assateague, Chincoteague, and Wallops were explored. When they arrived, they participated in a three hour boat training which included the use of otter trawls, refractometer, current cross, plankton net, Van Dorn bottle, and secchi disk.  

Former school board member Evan W. Hummer, 74 passes away
Evan W. Hummer, 74,of 11038 Leboeuf Trail Road, Centerville, died at 3:50 p.m., on Tuesday, May 14, 2013, at UPMC Hamot, in Erie. Mr. Hummer served on the Titusville Area School Board for 15 years from the fall of 1968 through the fall of 1983.

Mr. Hummer was born on Oct. 20, 1938, in Titusville, to the late Ralph and Leola Kerr Hummer.

He was a graduate of Titusville High School, Class of 1956. Mr. Hummer was formerly employed as a computer programmer in the '50s, at Struthers Wells Corporation.  
Joe Ketley named THS Girls' Soccer Team Head Coach
It is with great enthusiasm the Titusville Area School District introduces to the Titusville community our new head girls’ soccer coach for the 2013-14 school year. Mr. Joe Ketley, born in Southampton, England has accepted the position and will begin to prepare for the upcoming season. In the interview process Joe stated “Naturally, being English, he eats, sleeps, and breaths soccer”. Coach Ketley’s playing career includes high school, college, and semi-professional in England. He represented the English equivalent of State as a 16 year old. Joe holds a Union of European Football Associations (UEFA)B license and coaching certification. 
DeRose Named as 22nd Volkstadt Memorial Award Recipient
Terri Ann Wig, Chief Professional Officer of the Titusville Area United Way, has announced the recipient of the Volkstadt Memorial Award for 2013. The Volkstadt Award is presented to an area senior, pursuing post secondary education that has shown a passion for volunteerism in the community.

The Volkstadt Memorial Scholarship Award was established in 1999 due to a charitable donation from the estate of the late Charles and Martha Volkstadt. Mrs. Volkstadt was the director of the Titusville Area United Way for more than 25 years.  
Lavery Recipient of New Student Community Service Award Established by
Terri Ann Wig, Chief Professional Officer of the Titusville Area United Way has announced that Shannon Lavery has been selected as the first recipient of the newly Student Community Service Award.

The Award recognizes a graduating senior who has provided volunteer service at the Titusville Area United Way or at any of its community partner organizations. Lavery has volunteered at the Titusville Area United Way for several years during campaign time. During that time she has helped with mailings, labeled pledge forms, stuffed envelopes, etc. Lavery has also helped setting up for events and by manning booths at community events.  
THS Choir Performs
The Titusville High School choir traveled to Cleveland and Sanduskyon May10thand11th,2013. The purpose of the trip was to perform for the Ohio Veteran’s Home in Sandusky. While in Ohio students had the opportunity to tour the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the Cleveland Zoo and Rainforest, and also went to Cedar Point.  
Rob Pilewski '88 - named head golf professional at Pinehurst
Titusville High School graduate Rob Pilewski recently received a big promotion.

A standout member of the Rockets' golf team, the 1988 graduate has been named the head golf professional at Pinehurst Resort and Country Club's main course.
