japan_dayJapanese Day was recently held in third grade and Mr. Orner and Mrs. Elan's classes enjoyed food and fellowship Japanese style. Both classes completed a unit on Japan in which they learned about the country's culture. They dressed in kimonos (aka: Bath Robes Wink)and ate Japanese type foods with chopsticks.

It was quite an adventure and an awesome learning experience!!!

pumpkinfest1Oct. 27th - There were a lot of characters at Hydetown during our school "Pumpkin Fest"...We had a great fall time including a costume contest judged by Mr. McGaughey (who got to meet his soon to be incoming 6th graders for the first time!) and Erik Nikolaison (the Hydetown VFD chief) and Miss Hydetown ! Prizes were awarded for the prettiest, scariest, most original and funniest costumes in each grade level.

Following their contest each grade level traveled outside to our special trail lit with ghostly luminarias made by 4th grade and completed tasks to earn tickets which were deposited in their class' scarecrow pumpkin bucket. The winning class (Mrs. Elan) will be having a yogurt party soon!!!

It was a great fall night and everyone had a wonderful time...Can't wait for next fall to see what new characters appear.

secretary_of_agriculture_1Acting Pennsylvania Secretary of Agriculture visited our school on his annual Harvest Tour. Secretary Russell Redding made a stop at our school to share his thoughts on agriculture in our community and teach us a little about what agriculture provides for our state.

He thoroughly enjoyed visiting with the kids and telling about his job in Harrisburg.

It was quite an honor to be selected to be a part of our tour and he hopes to visit us again some time. The students were all very attentive and had great questions about farms and food!!!

icecreamThe ninth graders of THS's Freshman eXpress enjoyed their first recognition gathering on Friday, October 30th when they spent their 9th period directed learning class in an ice cream social in the cafeteria.  The social was to recognize all the students in the freshman class who go through the grading period doing what is expected of them without normally receiving any attention for it.  Those students were rewarded with ice cream served by their teachers, the principal and vice principal.

This was the first of several recognitions planned throughout the year.  Images of the ICS are viewable in the gallery section of this site or by clicking HERE.
